News & Events

August 31, 2010

What a great beginning to our school year. Former students are happy to be back and new students have already settled in nicely, making new friends, and making wonderful comments about our school.

Parents, if you have family, friends, or neighbors, who are looking for a good school for their child, please have them call Mrs. Brand or Mrs. Johnson at 755-5012 to set up an appointment to meet Mrs. Jolly and tour our school.

Thank you, Mrs. Simmons, Mrs. Shook, Mrs. Lackey, Ms. Skelton, Mrs. Foster, and Mrs. Shroll for helping with head checks last week.

Be the Best Parent you can be in 2010!
Parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning. Our school promotes weekly trips to the public library to check out 10 books your child can read. Have your child read two pages of the book to you. If they can read those two pages to you perfectly they can check that book out on their library card. If they make mistakes reading the two pages parents can check out that book on their library card and read this book together. The library is free!

On the first day of school each child was given a student information packet. These forms are very important for your child’s safety and security at school. Mrs. Johnson is a notary and will notarize the green emergency medical form for you (please bring a picture ID with you). Thank you to the 128
families who turned the paperwork on time last Friday. Please remember this packet is required and must be returned without exception. If you did not receive a packet for your child please contact the front office.

Thank you, parents, for watching out for everyone’s safety during drop off and pick up time. Please remember to move forward in the car line and have your child/children exit from the right side of your vehicle.

We want to remind you that students should not be dropped off and left unattended before 7:50. Please wait until you see a staff member on duty outside before leaving your child in the morning.

As stated in the Family Handbook, Manatee School of Arts and Sciences will not release students for early pick up between 2:00 and 2:45. There will be no exceptions to this rule and the doors will remain locked as the staff safely dismisses your children. If you must pick up your child early, please make arrangements to pick them up prior to 2:00.

If you have a child who is unable to buckle his/her seat belt, please work with them. For everyone’s safety a teacher may not lean into a car to fasten a seat belt.
You are invited to have lunch with your child/children any day. All classes have lunch from 11:30 to 12:00 everyday.

Safety Patrol is voluntary and open to 4th and 5th grade students that are interested.  Duties will require a short amount of time each day.  Patrols are selected based on dependability, interest in their job, attitudes toward others, and scholastic standing.  If students are interested in applying for safety patrol, they must complete the two part application.  The application includes an essay and parent/guardian form.  Application must be turned in by Wednesday, September 1, 2010 to Mrs. Hamm.

Please remember it takes a couple of weeks for us to enter new parent information into the www.gogeckos.com system or to make new email or password updates.

We would appreciate donations of treats for our Monday staff meetings. Please call the office if you can treat the teachers for any Monday staff meeting.

Fall school pictures will be taken on Wednesday, September 29, this year. Students must wear their school uniform for Fall pictures.

Please remember our school dress code requires all students to wear closed toe and closed heel tennis shoes (sneakers) everyday. For the safety of all children crocks, skate shoes, sandals, flip flops, etc. are not permitted at MSAS. We also ask that your child not wear shoes that play music or make noises as these are very distracting to other students.

Mrs. Fraser and Mrs. Israel would appreciate any used CD players and Mrs. Lanier is looking for some dress-up clothes for her class.

We have a correction to the fundraiser. When ordering online please use the code 967543 in the school account number space.
